Windancer Practice

Rainy, windy and cold conditions along with missing sails limited practice time, but the crew turned out anyway.  Two days of looking at the new mast and some of the new sails allowed the crew to get on the water for the first time in too long!!

Columbia - West Marine One Design Regatta

For the Columbia Yacht Club - West Marine One Design Regatta, three GL70s hit the line for some early season tune ups before the NOODs.  Windancer along with Pied Piper and Mirage completed 5 races over 2 days.  Saturday saw good racing conditions but on Sunday higher wind conditions made racing difficult.  Windancer dropped out of the second race to preserve the new main which had leech cord problems that prevented proper trimming.  Sailing on a strictly one-design basis, Mirage finished first, followed by Windancer and Pied Piper.

Chicago NOOD

After a foggy Friday with no racing Windancer came out smoking for 4 races on Saturday collecting a bullet, 2 2nds and a 7th to finish the day in 2nd place!  Most of the racing was done in #3 conditions - not Windancer's strength in the past, but the boat was able to keep it close on the beats and came blazing into the fleet on each downwind leg.  Sunday saw more #3 conditions, but the same combination of upwind consistency and downwind speed kept Windancer close enough to get a 3rd and hold off Evolution for a 2nd for the regatta.

Congratulations also to frequent Windancer crew Jim, Earl and Denice Lyden on their 2nd place in the Corsair class.  They were sailing Jim's boat Panacea.
